ANIMAL MY SOUL – 2013 IN REVIEW

WordPress.com prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog. Thanks to all those who visited and especially those who clicked the ‘like’ or ‘follow’ buttons.

Warmest greetings for the new year to all readers and fellow bloggers.

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 33,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 12 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

10 THINGS I LEARNT ABOUT BLOGGING IN 2013

1. WRITING IS THERAPEUTIC.Blogging has a healing power. I find writing down my thoughts and ideas , even when not fully formed, is cathartic and makes me feel calmer, more balanced and less alone.

2. DAILY BLOGGING IS NOT FOR WIMPS.

I wrote a post every single day from 1st January 2011  to 30th September 2013. It takes willpower or just plain bloody mindedness to persevere. I feel quite smug that I kept going for so long but I  finally waved the white flag when I was taking a week long break and had nothing scheduled.  Now I try to post something as regularly as I can secure in the knowledge that I have conquered the wimp within.

Tis-Better-to-be-brief3. BREVITY IS BEST.

Enough said?

Time flies when you’re enjoying yourself!

ipadscreenOn reflection, the title of this post is likely to attract the wrong demographic, but I always was a sucker for alliteration!

I should just issue a warning to screen-agers and other techno-savvy persons that what follows is not a cutting edge list of links or game recommendations but merely a note to self of ten dependable, easy to use and (mostly) free Apps I have come to know and trust.

1. Good Reader ($4.99) – This is my numero uno by a large margin. I read a lot of PDF files/books and prior to discovering this little beauty, I had to rely on a wi-fi connection and keep re-accessing the same document over and over. With this App you can save files in a form that allows you to manage, read and annotate offline. Transferring stuff is dead easy, either direct from websites or via file sharing sites like Dropbox.

2. Zite (Free) – Zite finds articles from various websites and organizes them into categories of your choosing. The more you use it, the more it gets to know what you like. I know there are alternatives that allow you to build your own personalised ‘magazine’ (e.g. Paper.li and Flipboard) but I currently prefer Zite as it does the virtual legwork for me. dieyoungToday is my birthday and , having taken a very big breath and blown out all my candles, my wish is for a surge in blog views.

Since the beginning of 2013 the number of views to this blog has halved.

Rather than being a sign that the quality of posts has declined (perish the thought!), this seems to be the result of Google’s revamped image search engine. Continue reading
