Gevulde Koek is a strange breed of almond cookie that was served up in bulk to we ravenous travellers stuck en route from Amsterdam to Portland Oregon. We were stuck for 4 hours because of a refuelling problem. Light refreshments consisted of these + juice and water. One young guy summed up the mood: “I don’t wanna cookie – I wanna meal!”
The boxes were left unattended in the waiting area and when there was no immediate sign of servers, one determined looking woman cracked open a box and helped herself. Others followed her example before a steward came to restore order.
An advertising sign on the side of the portable stairs to the plane read ‘What if you could fly when you’re ready’ That’s what we wanted to do!!
All’s well that ends well and I arrived 12 hours later at PDX International.
My first ever visit to the USA.
An emotional moment delayed but thankfully not postponed.
