ROCCO AND HIS BROTHERS

ROCCO E I SUOI FRATELLI  directed by Luchino Visconti (Italy, 1960)

Alain Delon is French but he gets through the whole of this three hour Italian movie without anyone noticing. He also manages to infiltrate the Parondi family who relocate from the south to Milan in search of work.

They might just as well all be foreigners considering the lukewarm welcome they receive.

Rocco, his battle axe of a mother (Kratrina Paxinou) and his four brothers are mostly reduced to menial jobs and a hand to mouth existence. You wouldn’t call their living standards grinding poverty but they certainly don’t find the nothern industrial city to be brimming over with oportunities.

The limitless availability on the net and the CDs I get to review help fuel an insatiable passion that I’m sure will never wane. Continue reading

‘SEEING’ RADIOHEAD

radiohead LIVE

Up until Tuesday 17th June 2008 I had never seen Radiohead in concert. In many ways I still haven’t despite the fact that I was present at the first of their two Italian dates at the Arena Civica in Milan.wet tickets
I think it would be more accurate to say that I was in the stadium while Radiohead were performing.
To go as far as to say that I saw them would be like saying I have seen Saudi Arabia just because I saw that country once from the window of an airplane.
There were around 18,000 at the show braving the deluge that had been threatening all day but cruelly coincided almost precisely with the appearance of support act Bat For Lashes.

Nelson Dida meets his match

Amazingly, a Glasgow Celtic fan has learnt a less lethal but still highly effective version the five point palm exploding trick as used to Kill Bill in Tarantino’s bloody epic !

How else can you explain how the canny Scot managed to fell the mighty Milan goalkeeper Nelson Dida in the closing minutes of the Champions league clash?

Compare these two videos and make up your own mind:
