Do you dream of staying at the height of fashion and being eco-friendly even after you die?

If so,bioartist Jae Rhim Lee might have the very thing for you.

She has created a designer suit which incorporates “Infinity Mushrooms” that will eat your body when your mortal coil is cut.

This fast-track solution means that you can rest in peace without  having an energy-wasting cremation weighing on your conscience.

Rhim Lee maintains that using mushrooms is a more environmentally friendly solution than using carcinogenic formaldehyde on corpses.”Infinity Mushrooms” are apparently just regular shiitake and oyster mushrooms which help speed up decomposition.

Furthermore, she hopes that this sticky end will go some way to stem what she calls the “cultural death denial”  and help promote an acceptance of and a personal engagement with death and what comes after.

But the one aspect which sounds less palatable is that all this does not take place out of sight six feet under.

Instead, the idea is to have dead bodies clothed in these mushroom suits in containers above ground. It is not clear how long the process will take.

I imagine she will find volunteers willing to test drive the suit but I doubt whether you will find many families and friends who relish dealing with the earthly remains.

Personally, I think I’d rather burn.
