I’ve been following with interest the attempts by my fellow Atheists and other born again Pagans to have themselves de-baptised.  You can follow the debate on the website of the National Secular Society.

I can see the symbolic point of this exercise although, frankly, I remain sceptical. I would say it is like asking the FBI to cancel a file on you.   

Still, I was amused by part of letter sent by the Catholic Church of England which at least shows they have a sense of humour over this issue:

“It is not possible to cancel your baptism as such, since baptism is regarded by the Church as leaving an indelible mark on the soul, but of course, this will not concern you since you no longer believe in that.”

It’s hard to argue with this logic!
