I’ve just watched David Lynch’s Inland Empire again, the meaning of which I don’t think would be much clearer even if I watched it 20 times.
One review cited Maya Deren’s 14 minute, 1943 film Meshes Of The Afternoon as a possible influence and having seen it on You Tube it’s not hard to see the similarities.
The nightmarish eroticism, stark rooms, eerie shadows, menacing stairways and a brutal killing are all in Lynch’s movie.
All you need to do is replace the murder weapon with a screwdriver……..
