Good to see punk poet John Cooper Clarke alive and kicking in the movie ‘Control’ performing ‘Evidently Chicken Town‘.
Here’s a poem from his 1983 collection ‘Ten Years In An Open Necked Shirt’ called ‘Nothing’:
nothing isn’t anything
it’s tasteless and it’s flat
nothing if it’s anything
is even less than that
I’ve got that certain nothing
no one can do without
the Spanish call it nada
I call it nowt
I’d take the train but don’t care
to travel by myself
all the way from nowhere
to get to nowhere else
nothing ever goes on
nothing never ends
say nothing to no one
it’s nothing to do with them
nothing going on and on
nothing wall to wall
it happens once and then it’s gone
leaving bugger all

Au contraire: it was totally weird to see JCC aged fifty odd reading his poem as if it were 1978 when it was in fact now and everyone else looked thirty years younger than him: I found it so anyway.
JCC old? No way! The man is still in his prime!
I suppose you could say the same about Iggy…….I just don’t know why they didn’t get an actor:imagine if they’d had the actual pistols in it….
