In the mood for story songs and pulled out Smog’s 2005 album ‘A River Ain’t Too Much To Love‘ which reminded me how great Bill Callaghan’s songs are. He has a knack of drawing you into his world and he’s not afraid to take you to some pretty dark places too.

This record has a warmer feel, however, and a self depricating tone which I like. I laughed out loud at the lyrics to ‘I’m New Here’ which includes these great lines:

Met a woman in a bar
Told her I was hard to get to know
And near impossible to forget
She said I had an ego on me
The size of Texas

Well I’m new here
and I forget

Does that mean big or small?
