Fortunate to catch the final day of a marvellous exhibition of photos, drawings, poems and films related to Tina Morotti (b. Udini, Italy1896 – d. Città del Messico 1942) in Cesena.
Modotti certainly packed a lot into her short life as model, silent film actress, revolutionary activist and photographer. She travelled from Italy to San Francisco, Mexico, Spain and Russia. Her photographs form the heart of the show with shots of poverty and rebellion in Mexico being the most striking. The picture above showing a corn cob alongside guitar strings and a bullet belt is a fantastic image.
I confess that I didn’t know anything about her before this exhibition but am now keen to learn more. A Wiki entry gives brief details of her life.
